TWM empowers survivors of violence

“I have learned to feel joy and appreciate every day”

Feedback from our work with women that survived domestic abuse

Thing may have seemed a bit quiet at TWM but behind the scenes a LOT has been going on! Read on to hear about our community work, our new diploma course, support at work and our summer retreat.

Community work

Most important – because this is the work that drives all we do – is our community work which this year has focussed on women who have been impacted by violence, in particular domestic abuse. We have not collated the results yet but I took a quick peak and this is a distillation of the feedback from clients after some sessions with one of our TWM practitioners:

I feel better equipped; stronger; more relaxed. I have learned how to stand back and take a minute to get things in perspective; that I am resilient and strong; that there are ways forward, there is a future; that not all relationships are terrible; that I wasn’t responsible, I do not need to feel ashamed

And this: ‘I have learned how to feel joy and appreciate every day.’ Wow!.

Practitioner training

And of course none of this would have happened without our wonderful practitioners. We want to attract more, and our focus just now is on making our team more diverse, so we would love to talk to people from different cultures, ethic backgrounds and genders to about training with us. In particular we would like to skill-up people who are already working to support people in our communities. With this in mind, we are creating a brand new diploma course which will be starting in September.

Corporate work

We offer totally confidential sessions for any individual that need support to deal with difficult emotions, teaching them how to feel more empowered, calm, safe and purposeful and giving them exercises that they can continue to use for themselves. Some companies are buying a block of sessions that their employees can access when they need them as they recognise that making support available without having to go through HR or line managers could be the stitch in time they need and therefore a really good investment.

Retreats and workshops

We have no workshops organised at present as all our focus is on developing the diploma course. However, we are all looking forwards to a silent retreat in North Yorkshire in June. Do join us!
