Introducing Clare Walters – Founder of The Walters Method

From Ecology to Embodied Healing: A Journey of Transformation

Clare Walters began her professional life as an ecologist, spending a decade immersed in wildlife surveys and conservation consultancy. But when her young son fell ill and conventional medicine offered no answers, Clare’s world shifted. A single session with a homeopath sparked a revelation, not just about her son’s healing, but about the body’s innate capacity to restore itself. That moment marked the beginning of a new path.

With four small children and a move to Yorkshire, Clare retrained as a homeopath and opened her private practice in 1998. Her work soon led her to Barnsley Hospital, where she treated patients with chronic pain, many of whom carried deep emotional wounds. Clare noticed a pattern: trauma, often rooted in childhood, was manifesting physically. Healing the body required healing the emotional imprint.

At the same time, Clare was navigating her own personal upheaval, a painful marriage breakup that led her to a workshop called The Journey. It was here that she began to understand the power of accessing and releasing unconscious trauma through the body. Inspired, she trained as a practitioner and spent five years learning from leading spiritual teachers across Europe and the U.S.

Clare had a gift: she could translate complex healing concepts into accessible, practical exercises. Her clients responded. Other practitioners took notice. In 2010, she delivered her first workshop. By 2012, it had evolved into a year-long experiential training course originally called Focussed Mindfulness, now known as The Walters Method

The method is rooted in felt-sense awareness, emotional release, and embodied healing. It allows practitioners to guide clients safely to the source of emotional pain without re-traumising and resolve it through structured, compassionate processes. Clare’s approach is experiential, intuitive, and deeply human. Trainees take on the roles of client, practitioner and observer, gaining embodied insight and practical confidence.

Clare’s own healing journey is woven into the method. She speaks candidly about living in a freeze state for years, driven by fear and self-judgment. Through the work, she found solace, clarity and conviction. Her story is one of awakening not just to her own inner wisdom, but to a calling that now supports hundreds of practitioners and clients.

The Walters Method has helped people recover from grief, abuse, relationship breakdowns and inherited trauma. It’s been described as “transformational,” “liberating” and “life-changing.” Clare continues to teach, mentor and expand the reach of the method through her social enterprise, supporting communities and empowering practitioners from all backgrounds.

“Healing is possible. And when we learn to witness, feel and release what’s held in the body,  we don’t just survive, we thrive. ”
