Diploma* Course Overview

The Walters Method (TWM) relieves emotional distress, empowers and enhances greater self-understanding. It transforms lives, sometimes after only 3 sessions, giving clarity on how to be; how to deal with difficult emotions; how to find meaning and become fulfilled.

It offers tools that can be used at times of challenge and uncertainty or as a daily practice.

It is a pluralistic and body-based psychotherapy focusing on felt sensations and does not require the client to talk about their issues.

This document outlines the content of the diploma course in TWM. No specific qualifications are required: each person brings their own unique life experience regardless of their educational and career background.  A willingness to learn, heal from past trauma and participate in the workshops is essential.

Our Ethos

We hold an open, non-judgemental, nurturing environment for our clients; guide them with love and authenticity and take responsibility for addressing any personal issues that could affect our ability to be fully present with them.

TWM is not something we ‘turn on’ as practitioners, but is a way of being. Every life challenge is seen as an opportunity to become more open and to deepen our understanding and compassion for ourselves and others.

The Training Programme

The course runs as six weekends over a year and focuses first on personal development using the TWM tools and techniques. Then from weekend four it supports students into practice.

You will:

  • Gain a deeper understanding and awareness of yourself using TWM,
  • Accrue a toolkit that supports you to become increasingly present, calm and compassionate,
  • Build confidence in using the techniques with clients,
  • Gain an understanding of the TWM models and maps,
  • Be able to place TWM techniques in current psychotherapeutic contexts,
  • Be able to work ethically and professionally, building trust with your client and working to address your intrinsic bias and prejudices.
  • Develop a reflexive and reflective practice, increasing your self-awareness and consciousness of your ‘inner supervisor’ and ‘wise guide’,
  • Keep a reflective journal evidencing your progress over the year.
  • Know the limits of your abilities and when and how to refer clients on
  • Gain your TWM practitioner licence,
  • Understand and be supported to meet the requirements for annual accreditation as a TWM practitioner

 Objectives

  • To spend the year focussing on personal issues and becoming increasingly mindful, compassionate and free from mental clutter, trauma, emotional baggage, negative thinking, fears and unconscious programming.
  • To gain a deep, experiential understanding of the techniques while becoming increasingly skilled, intuitive and confident in using The Walters Method with clients.
  • To be mindful of The Walters Method’s aims: to practise without fear, judgement, collusion or a need to rescue our clients.
  • To integrate our code of ethics into your practice.
  • To practise and gain increasing experience in and confidence of The Walters Method tools and techniques through supervised practice with clients.
  • To be supported with developing a private practice; integrating The Walters Method toolkit within your existing practice or joining the TWM team.
